Frequently Asked Questions and
Answers
This page addresses one of the most frequently asked questions regarding
the LA23 post code Business Improvement District. The answer
below is by no means exhaustive and will be added to as new
information becomes available.
Do the County, District or Town Councils have a say on how the money is
spent?
No! Under the legislation setting up
a Business Improvement District (Statutory Instrument 2004 No. 2443 -
The Business Improvement Districts (England) Regulations 2004) the
money collected from the businesses in the form of the levy can not be
used by the Councils. It is solely for the use by the businesses
within the LA23 posted code area. South Lakeland District Council
only collect the money, by way of the Business Rate bill, on behalf of
the BID. The money is "ring fenced" for the use by the business
community. This will be strictly adhered to by the Bowness and
Windermere BID.
The BID money is not a way of
supplementing the Councils finances.
