The Lions Club Annual Fund Raising Festival 2009

Following on the success of the 2008 Boat Parade, the Lake District Boat Club are continuing to organise this years event.

This years event saw about 15 boats entered, down on last year but the standard was a lot higher.

Many thanks to Eve Blatchley for her wonderful PR skills, also to Tony Lindley for his commentary which would have given Murray Walker a run for his money.  Thanks are also expressed to Chris and Jane for their help with the BBQ.

The judges were the presidents of the Boat Club (Pauline and Val), Andrew Irvine, President of the Lions, Bill and Christine Johnson, representing the Chamber of Trade, the Mayor and his wife (Bill and Lyn Smith) and Eve Blatchley, representing the Windermere & Diessen Twinning Association.

The 2009 winners were as follows:

Best Overall

Stella Circus
Most Topical 'Thriller'
Best Team Effort The Italian Job
Small Craft Malibu Nights
Best Dressed Boat Sister Act
Best Dressed Yacht Stella Circus

The Lake District Boat Club are very proud of own members who took 4 out of the 6 prizes.

I would personally like to thank everybody who entered the boat parade.  The amount of effort that went into every entry was superb and should be an inspiration to other boat owners to enter a boat in 2010.

Regards

Malcolm Atkinson

The Boat Parade - 2008.

It's back!  And with a vengeance!

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the re-emergence of the Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club Boat Parade on Saturday 9th August 2008 saw over 25 vessels of all descriptions taking part.

This feat was made possible by the sterling work of Malcolm Atkinson of the Lake District Boat Club, who organised the event and Elaine Middleton of Total Sailing, Bowness who 'pestered' and cajoled people into taking part.

Elaine said "this has got to be the best parade for a number of years and we hope to make it even bigger next year, although it would be nice to see a few more businesses taking part next year."

The 2008 winners and runners up in the four categories were:

Best Overall

1st Team GB
2nd Indian Summer
Most Topical
1st Bluebird
2nd Mamma Mia
Team
1st Swan Lake
2nd Baby Boomers
Small Craft
1st Black Pearl
2nd Flintstones

For 2009, it is hoped that there will be a limited number of places for companies and businesses on some of the Lake District Boat Cub boats.  If you are interested, please contact:
