Windermere On Water
Welcome to the
Windermere & Bowness Chamber of Trade "Windermere On Water" page.
The WOW Programme for
2008 can be accessed by clicking on:
Programme and the event is
being held over 2 weekends with the "WOW Spectacular"
being held on the 14th June 2008.
The first weekend of
the festival saw the "Re-opening" of Windermere after the completion of
the Enhancement Scheme. Many of the local businesses decorated
their shop windows in a "blue" theme in keeping with the competition
that was being run. There was also free circus workshops, music,
special offers and food and wine tasting in the village.
The local Scouts interned a Time Capsule to
mark "100 Years of Scouting."
The second weekend, down
on the Glebe, began with music from
Soznak and
acrobatics from A. J. James. Then
later into the evening saw these guys,
who are called Transe Express and hail
from France, hanging from a crane fifty
feet above the Glebe in Bowness.
The drummers brought the concept of
drumming to their audience by
interacting with those present. It
sounds a bit bizarre, but you really
need to hear their
drumming
to feel the atmosphere. The
trapeze artist added a bit of drama to
the action.
The finale was a
spectacular firework display, from the
lake, by Walk-the-Plank, who were here 2
years ago, and two thousand people all
headed for the chippy on the way back to
their B&Bs.
Probably!

2007
In 2007 WOW hit the
streets of Windermere and Bowness with a varied and wacky programme of
street performance. The location moved to keep you on your toes
starting at Windermere Train Station on Saturday 9th June, moving down
to the Pier at Bowness Bay during the afternoon and finishing with a
series of shows at Market Cross, Ambleside on Sunday 10th June.
These featured leading street arts companies from across the country.
Numerous businesses on
and around the lake offered 'sampler' sessions to the public. This
was augmented by a variety of world renowned entertainment acts on the
Glebe.
2006
In 2006, between
2-3,000
people attended the event which was being held for the very first time.
In 2007 over 5,000 people attended. Hopefully 2008 will bring an
even greater number of visitors.

Thanks for all of the hard work that all
of you have put into WOW 2007. The weekend was a great
success and we should all be very proud.
There are obvious lessons that we will
learn and I would like to do the same process as last year
and ask you to write down any feedback that you have about
the event/marketing/activities so that we can use it to
develop the event further. It would also be useful to have a
debrief meeting and discuss the future of WOW. I will send
an email to set this date shortly.
There was a photographer working all day
on Saturday and he has sent a selection of six pictures to
the Westmorland Gazette, who phoned me for an interview
yesterday (we have also had coverage on Lakeland Radio
today).
Here is a taste of the amazing
images that are a record
of the weekend.
Best wishes,
Michaela |

I would also wish to add my
congratulations to all concerned - the main event on
Saturday attracted a tremendous crowd and although my
adrenalin levels reached a peak when rotating trolleys of
fireworks headed for the crowd there appeared to be no major
problems as a result.
Thanks
